I am a Christian if:

I know who Jesus is

• Jesus is the creator of the heavens and the earth.
  • Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
• Jesus is God. John 1:1
• Jesus is the expression of God, the Word. John 1:1
• In the beginning Jesus was. John 1:1
  • Jesus was not created. He had no beginning. He was before the beginning.
  • Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
• Jesus is the basis for all life. John 1:4
• Jesus' life is the light of men.
  • Joh 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
• Jesus made the world.
  • Joh 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
• Jesus became flesh and dwelt among us.
  • Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
• Jesus is described as the son of God and was with Him and declares Him.
  • Joh 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

I know that I did not meet the standard of righteousness required to stand before God (to enter into the presence of God)

• I failed to comprehend the light of God.
  • Joh 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
• I did not know God from my birth.
  • Joh 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
• I had no inclination to receive Him, Jesus.
  • Joh 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

When I was enlightened with the issues of life, I received Jesus.

• Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
• Joh 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
• 1Jo 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
• 1Jo 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
• 1Jo 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
  1Jo 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
  1Jo 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
  1Jo 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
  1Jo 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
  1Jo 5:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
  

What does one do who is a child of God?

•  We keep his commandments.
  • 1Jo 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
    1Jo 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
    1Jo 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
  • 1Jo 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
  • 2Jo 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
    
• We follow not that which is evil.
  • 3Jo 1:11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
    
• We walk in the truth.
  • 2Jo 1:4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
    
• We should walk as Jesus walked.
  • 1Jo 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
    
• We should love our brother who is in Christ.
  • 1Jo 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
    
• The word of God abides in us and we overcome the wicked one.
  • 1Jo 2:14 " . . . and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.. . ."
    
• We are not to love the world nor the things of the world.
  • 1Jo 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
    1Jo 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
    1Jo 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
    1Jo 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
    1Jo 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
    
• What we learned in the beginning about Jesus in the scriptures will abide in us.
  • 1Jo 2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
    1Jo 2:25 And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
    
• Your life objective will be to do righteousness.
  • 1Jo 2:29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
    
• You will desire to purify yourself even as Jesus is pure.
  • 1Jo 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
    1Jo 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
• You are careful not to sin.
  • 1Jo 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
    1Jo 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
    1Jo 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
    
• You are not to believe every spirit.
  • 1Jo 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
    
• We ought to love one another.
  • 1Jo 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
    1Jo 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
  • 1Jo 4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
    
• As Jesus is, so are we in the world.
  • 1Jo 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
    
• We love Jesus because He first loved us.
  • 1Jo 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
    
• We are to keep ourselves from idols.
  • 1Jo 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
